38ft Seaplane Tender

The 38ft Seaplane Tender was built excusively by Walton Yacht Works at Shepperton and as such was the builder's alternative to the slightly larger, White's 40ft and the slightly smaller BPB 37.5ft types. Built from mahogany, with double diagonal planking on frames, with skin thickness constant throughout to both hull bottom and sides. The layout was standard for the war-built seaplane tenders, in that the craft comprised of forward cockpit/wheelhouse aft of which was a cabin suitable for passengers or stretcher cases and aft of which was the open cockpit with twin engines. There was a toilet compartment within the main cabin structure; positioned forward and to port.

As the craft were completed and accepted into service they were allocated to units both at home and abroad. When disposal came, just like other types some were converted to Fire Floats and others transferred to the Navy.
